In Coalville, Leicestershire, United Kingdom, a dog trapped underground in a badger’s sett for nearly three days was rescued on Tuesday with the combined help of the RSPCA and firefighters.

According to LeicestershireLiveNews, rescuers were called to the scene after the worried dog owner called for help trying to rescue his dog. The dog had crawled into the sett and became stuck in the mud for 60 hours when the fire and rescue crew from Leicestershire arrived. RSPCA officials had already been on scene and placed the dog’s exact underground location by his distressed barking.

Rescue crews used listening and specialty locating devices to further aid them so they would know where to dig. It took nearly five hours to save the pooch who was reunited with his owner and taken to the rescue organization for veterinarian care.

The badger was not located.

Many thanks to everyone who helped save this pup’s life.
