A family in California has been reunited with their dog after she went missing 12 years ago. On Friday, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office upload a video to Facebook with the heading:

On February 10, Officer Brandon Levin received a call about a stray dog who had been roaming around a Stockton property. The person described the dog as “old and unwell.” And so Officer Levin picked up the dog and followed protocol and had her scanned. The dog’s name was Zooey and she had been reported missing from Lafayette, California in 2010. In fact, the dog had been missing for so long, the microchip company had listed her status as “deceased” in 2015.

Fortunately Zooey’s owner still had the same phone number and was contacted.

Michelle and Zooey’s reunion was videoed and has garnered more than 2.6 thousand views from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Fortunately the sheriff’s office was able to contact Michelle the same day that Zooey was found and scanned, and therefore didn’t have to go to the shelter.

Michelle shared that she had adopted Zooey and her twin sister at the shelter when they were both puppies. They had been with the family for six months when one day the family went to the store, and when they returned 20 minutes later, Zooey was gone.

Zooey will surely live out her days with Michelle, who also told us that she has another senior dog at home – that pooch is 13 years-old.
