Earlier this evening:

At the New York City Animal Care Center in Brooklyn, the hours are winding down for a five-year-old dog named Bill who sadly had been let down by nearly everyone in his life.

A volunteer writes:

Meet Bill – he’s big, handsome, and makes friends easily! He greets me in his kennel with wags and wiggles, and does the same for staff he passes in the hallways. Our walks take longer than usual, because I just can’t help but stop to pet him a few more times … and he’s always happy to oblige. I mean, who could resist a big lovebug like this – wiggling into me, with his tail flapping against my arm, as I give him cheek rubs and back scratches?

Although Bill is very affectionate, he does need some basic training. He may never have been taught basic dog etiquette to sit, stay and don’t jump. Sometimes he pulls on his leash and sometimes he jumps for treats and attention, but that should not be a factor for losing his life in a back room.

On the bright side, Bill seems to be house trained and reacts favorably to positive reinforcement with offered treats.

Check out one of his videos here where he is learning the basics of “sit.”

How about this one as he readies himself for St. Patrick’s Day with a Pupacino.

Shelter notes for Bill:

Animal ID #130360

Bill is neutered and is five years old. He weighs 72 pounds and arrived at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center on January 26, 2022. He came in as a stray. At the shelter, Bill seems stressed and has deteriorated over time. He needs out of the shelter to relax. Medically Bill is stated to have dental diseases, diarrhea and is underweight.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Level 3
Dogs with Level 3 determinations will need to go to homes with experienced adopters.

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)

Recommendations comments:

No children (under 13): Due to Bill’s overall level of arousal with the anxiety observed in the care center, we feel as though he would be best set up to succeed if placed into a home with adults only
