The Dallas World Aquarium is being sued for the second time in less than a year after a giant otter allegedly bit a little girl in the hand who had been visiting the exhibit.

According to NbcNews, Samantha Jorgensen filed the suit on behalf of her daughter, alleging that when her family visited the aquarium in September 2019, a giant otter reached up over a glass barrier and bit her two-year-old daughter in the hand as the child sat atop of her dad’s shoulders for a better view.

The barrier, made of plexiglass around the exhibit was five-and-a-half-feet tall, but the child sitting on her father’s shoulders, who is six-feet-three-inches, enabled the giant otter to jump up and come into contact with the child

“The otter bite pulled one of the toddler’s fingernails clear off and caused permanent scarring.”

Lawsuit phrase

Giant otters can grow up to six-feet long, and the family claims through their lawsuit there were no warning signs that the otters could jump over the top of the enclosures. The family is suing for $250,000 to $1million.

A warning sign is currently posted:

A previous suit was filed last year when a woman reached over the top of the enclosure and said one of the otters scratched her 18-month-old son leaving a permanent scar on the toddler’s arm.
