A sweet young dog picked up as a stray and suspected of having been abandoned at a local campground, had a heartbreaking meltdown on Friday after she arrived at the Fairfield County SC Animal Shelter.

A volunteer offered the following observation as she walked through the outside of the intake building. The dog, dubbed Viola screamed:

“…I couldn’t help but gravitate towards the heart piercing screams that were coming out of a peep hole from the outside. As I approached, there she was, just begging for someone’s attention. She had us all in tears to say the least…”

The volunteer continued because Viola isn’t the first dog to react to the dismal conditions:

“When I say the shelter is a lot for many dogs to absorb, this is the perfect example. The loud echo that resonates in the old intake building, the darkness and the isolation is enough to make us somber – imagine them.”
