A Wisconsin woman has been sentenced to one year in jail for dragging a puppy to her death in 2019. As reported by NBC News, 48-year-old Rebecca Schroederus is also facing two years of extended supervision and four years of probation as a result of the incident leading up to the death of the five-month-old English bulldog, named Dolly, who belonged to her parents.

Schroederus was visiting her parents on the day that she asked to take Dolly for a walk. During the walk, witnesses saw her dragging the pup through the grass, on pavement, and over a curb. When confronted, the woman reportedly said:

“l would never do that to a dog, I’m a dog walker for God sake.”

Schroederus admitted to the police that she may have pulled the puppy “a little too hard.” The puppy was bleeding from her mouth, and she died at a veterinary office from trachea damage which was the result of strangulation.

During Schroederus’ probation, she is not allowed to own or care for animals.
