A woman is mourning the unexpected loss of her dog, Saint, who was “mistakenly” killed at Animal Care & Control Philadelphia (ACCT Philly). As reported by CBS News, the five-year-old pit bull was taken to the animal control agency on August 4 after Tiffany Lavelle’s ex-boyfriend was pulled over while Saint was in the car.

The police determined that the man had a parole violation, so Saint was sent to ACCT Philly. An animal control officer used a metal “control” pole to bring Saint into the facility, and during that time, Saint managed to break his jaw while biting on the pole.

Sarah Barnett with ACCT Philly told the news agency why the pole was used:

“Based on his behavior that was reported to us, as well as the behavior staff observed, he was brought into our building on a control pole.”

The ex-boyfriend was able to go to the animal control facility later in the day to try and retrieve Saint, but he was unable to take the dog home. Lavelle explained:

“He needed to have proof that he was going to a vet with Saint before they could release him. He didn’t. How would he have proof? He didn’t know, nobody even told him. Saint was completely healthy when he dropped him off,”

Later that same day, Saint was euthanized. Now Lavelle was answers, and she is haunted by the fact that her dog died alone. The animal control agency is reviewing its policies to ensure that a breakdown in communication doesn’t result in a pet’s death in the future.

  1. The ACCT should have gotten a vet for the dog right away, they broke it. The dog had done nothing wrong. When the guy came in , say here, we will call, get you an appointment and pay, we are so sorry. One thing had nothing to do with the other. An innocent dog was traumatized, suffered and killed. Come up with the remains or maybe you did what they did out here, before they were non kill, they too put peoples pets to sleep but sold the pit out the backbdoor for $300. No paperwork, humm? Our Spca is above board now, run a raffle, take your money, take all the tickets and gifts back home and say, we will text winners. I was there? If I won could have gotten gift, people had to leave? Come back, it poured on everything because they took them. Nice going Media, Pa! Don’t you have rules to abide by?To answer to? I’m so sorry about your dog , just been threw it before out here, until the so called “big change “ now n kill.
Make sure they did not sell him!!! Their has to be a trail.God Bless!
