A woman in India is accused of an atrocious act of animal cruelty against a mother dog and her litter of puppies. According to Yahoo News, a woman by the name of Marry was booked after a video of the cruel incident hit social media and began circulating.

The video, reported to have been recorded on September 4, showed the woman setting the mother dog and her pups on fire – the woman could be seen using a torch on the canine family on the porch of her home in Manjali. Animal rights activists sprang into action after learning about what happened and they were able to find the dog, and five surviving puppies, and get them out of harm’s way.

The DAYA Animal Welfare Organization, let Facebook followers know that the pups were found:

Moment of relief…..We found 5 puppies from Manjaly …With the assistance of Alangad Police lead by S.I Ramesh and locals our team was able to find them from the location…Currently we have hospitalized the puppies….We are not quite sure about the number of puppies ,Search is still in progress….

And then the DAYA Animal Welfare Organisation posted a photo of the mother dog nursing her pups, writing, “The reunion…!!! Finally Mother dog and the the puppies unites again.”

Tragically, not all of the puppies survived. According to the accused animal abuser, there were a total of seven puppies in the litter – two did not survive being burned.

According to the news agency, the woman could face up to five years in jail if she is found guilty.
