In Philippi, West Virginia, a Marion County man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly flinging a dog in the air using his leash and then kicking the pet.

According to 12WBoyNews, Robert Knight, 28, was discovered by police “holding a medium size canine on the ground.” When authorities arrived, Knight had dragged the dog into the nearby bushes to hide, however the frightened dog ran away from Knight “in a fearful manner.”

An eyewitness stated he had seen Knight “sling” the dog into the air by its leash and then strike the dog several times with his feet.

The dog is currently in the custody of the shelter;  Knight was remanded to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of a $2,000 bond.
