The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources for the Northern Region Conservation is asking the public for help identifying the driver of the vehicle captured on video chasing a herd of deer and killing one of them.
According to AbcNews, the disturbing act was videoed on a doorbell camera.
“It’s heartbreaking and sickening that this would happen if in fact it was intentional, so it is a bad deal, we are looking out for wildlife, and that’s what we want to protect,” stated Trevor Doman, a conservation officer for the DWR.
The incident occurred on North 1050 E. Street on Sunday night and showed a person driving a dark-colored truck with a loud exhaust speeding up and appearing to chase a herd of deer and killing one of them. Ten minutes later the same truck returns and opens the tailgate of the truck and dumps the dead deer on the sidewalk. He could be seen trying to cover the bloodied body with snow leaving it in the snowbank.
According to law the unlawful taking of protected wildlife is considered poaching. Along with other fines, the punishment could be quite stiff.
