A big brown stray dog, somehow enchanted with a pink and purple unicorn toy, who was apprehended by animal services this week after repeatedly running into a Dollar General Store in Kenansville, North Carolina to steal the toy found his loving “furever” home on Friday.

Earlier this week, the determined pooch named Sisu repeatedly dashed into the store to nab the plush toy.  Duplin County Animal Services posted a photo of the canine kleptomaniac on Facebook, explaining:

“This is what happens when you break into the dollar general consistently to steal the purple unicorn that you layed (sic) claim to but then get animal control called to lock you up for your b & e and larceny but the officer purchases your item for you and brings it in with you.”

Employees at the store called animal services to handle the situation. Officer Samantha Lane purchased the toy for the dog, and with unicorn in his mouth, Sisu happily accompanied the officer in her truck to the shelter.

Sisu was named after the Disney dragon in “Raya and the Last Dragon” and to help with his adoption needs, he starred in a glamorous photo shoot by Mary Shannon Johnstone. The adorable pooch was described as “sassy with other dogs” but “very obedient” with humans and a dog who knew his basic commands to sit, stay and heel.

And on Friday, Sisu’s dream came true – he was adopted. His new family did mention they would welcome any other unicorns anyone wanted to send.

“We have a 14 kennel shelter with 819 sq miles and population of 60,000 people with 7-10 pets per person, with many strays and owner surrenders…. There is no where to house them nor support their care on the budget we are given, or any budget. We are too small of a shelter to be accepted into a grant program, so we search day in and day out for a place for them, we beg, we plead and most importantly we try to keep everyone informed so they have an opportunity to make a difference where we cannot, our volunteers and supporters make such a huge difference for these furbabies.
