An 18+ year-old neglected poodle arrived at the Orange County Animal Care Center on May 27, 2021. The shelter named her Abigail; her real name is Gorga. Her updated story is truly heartbreaking.

The shelter had put out a plea asking for an approved rescue organization to take her on June 1, 2021,when her stray hold period would be up. She has multiple medical issues which include ulcerated mammary masses, oronasal fistulas, eyes/ear issues, skin problems and spinal arthritis.

And so her owners arrived at the shelter on June 2. An animal advocate and rescue organization wrote the following:

“Family came today to get her. So that means us wanting to help her was not going to happen. I told the shelter we would take her if they declined.
I never received a call so I assumed she went home. I just read a comment that she was still listed so I checked. Sure enough the family decided they didn’t
Want her anymore. How tragically sad for this poor old dog.
People make me sick!,” wrote Sal Valdepena, founder of Balooga’s Foundation.

Update – just finished home check.
“She has a beautiful family waiting to welcome her home, she also has the most beautiful, sweet little senior sisters waiting to welcome her home.”
Late afternoon update and the best news ever! Check out the photos. This senior has been rescued.

  1. I am very happy that Gorda was rescued. She deserves to be treasured and loved for as long as she has life…….

I can’t understand why her original family would be that cruel to abandon her when she really needs their support…… WTF is their thinking??? They have just demonstrated to their children how they should be treated when they are very old and frail……. WTG!!!

It’s absolutely heartbreaking to think of all the others in this same awful situation who are not rescued……… I pray for them……..

I would never abandon a family member to die alone in the shelter. I would prefer to be there for them in the veterinary clinic: snuggling them and reassuring them that their lives mattered, they are greatly loved and treasured and that they will be very missed……..
