In Jacksonville, Florida, a two-year-old child had spotted a “turtle” in a sewer opening outside of a local restaurant, but it turned out to be an alligator. Joseph Brenner posted the dangerous encounter on Reddit the moment he rescued his toddler; it had been just in time when dad actually caught his first glimpse of the reptile being an alligator.

According to News18, Brenner captioned the photo of the toothy reptile,

“My 2 year old son looked down into the sewer outside the restaurant and said ‘turtle’ not quite.”

In the footage of the video, submitted to Newsweek, Brenner added,

“Yo, look at this in the sewer outside of Cantina. There is a ginormous alligator and it is alive as hell.”

In the background, you can hear a child saying, “Hello Mr. Alligator.”

The crocodile had been stuck in the drain and was later rescued by a wildlife team and relocated. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission estimates that there are more than 1.3 million alligators in Florida, and they usually don’t interact with humans unless they are provoked. Still, it’s always better to stay away from them.
