On Monday morning, an animal rescue volunteer transporter, and a rescue dog, died in a terrible crash near U.S. 56 Highway and E2400 RD along the Douglas and Johnson County, Kansas line. The driver, 39-year-old David Hosch, and a dog named Annabelle, died when his van collided with a semi-truck.

Hosch is being mourned by the Kansas City rescue community. The Always &  Forever Midwest Animal Sanctuary let Facebook followers know of the tragedy on July 5, writing:

We lost a family member today. A tragic, fatal accident occurred earlier this morning and now we are struggling to understand why or even how to go on.
All we know is that a beautiful, kind, generous, so ridiculously funny, self-less, amazing soul entered heaven today with one of our rescues pups he was driving to the vet. David was our friend. David was our family. David is the reason hundreds of animals found their forever homes.

Adding:

This post doesn’t do him justice, it simply can’t.
There are no words, only prayers. Prayers for his family, prayers for our little family, prayers for his animals, prayers for David and Annabelle who entered heaven with him. He did not pass alone and in some small way there is the smallest of comfort in knowing that a very special, very loved furry friend travelled with him on his next journey, just across the rainbow bridge where all his beloved friends were waiting.
We love you David. All we can think of to say is is just how much we all love you and always will. Our hearts so so very broken.

And on July 6, the Sanctuary acknowledged the loss of Annabelle, the dog who David was transporting on that terrible day:

This is Annabelle. She came to us just under a week ago and within a day went to a loving, incredible foster family who adored her. She loved everyone and everything and lived in the moment. It didn’t matter her prior owners gave her up, that she was hit by a car, left with mangled legs, and abandoned at a kill shelter, what mattered was she could run and jump and bark and play and that she was loved.
She left this life for the next with our friend David yesterday in a tragic accident. He no doubt tried to shield her from any pain and we know with all our hearts God did that as well.
Run free, with David, with no more pain in heaven now sweet girl. Your new journey has just begun and this one short precious life you had here with your foster family and with us will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace David and Annabelle.
