A Thai navy sailor has been credited with rescuing four cats from an abandoned sinking ship that had caught fire off an island in a dramatic mission. The video has gone viral; a heartwarming example of kindness and respect for all life.
According to Reuters, the crew of the ship had been taken to safety on Tuesday and the navy was sent back to the sinking vessel to look for an oil spill. Instead the sailors discovered the kittens huddled together on a wooden beam trying to stay afloat on the capsized vessel.
First-Class Petty Officer Wichit Pukdeelon of the navy’s air and coastal defense division said he used his camera to zoom in on the boat and saw one or two cats popping their heads out. In order to rescue the kittens, a sailor in a life vest swam to the kittens and placed them on his shoulders to keep them from drowning. Once he reached the boat, the team pulled him and his feline friends in with a rope.
The cats are being cared for by their rescuers at their base located on the island of Koh Lipe. Who would be surprised if the cats will surely be adopted by their rescuers in the near future.
