A dog suffered a miserable death from heatstroke after a teenager stole an SUV, leaving the dog inside to die. As reported by KARE 11, the German shepherd mix, named GoGo, was inside of a Subaru Outback on July 24 when a 16-year-old boy stole it from a parking lot outside of Hamburguesa El Gordo on Sims Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The teen, whose name was not released because of his age, dumped the vehicle approximately four miles away, leaving the dog inside despite temperatures in the 90s on the late July day. By the time that the Outback was found, GoGo was dead.

Investigators were led to the teen thanks to a fingerprint found inside of the car – the boy initially denied stealing the car, but later admitted to taking it, and acknowledged that the dog was inside.

The teen will be sentenced on Sept. 14 – he has faced charges for auto theft before the July 2021 incident.
