In Lilesville, North Carolina, officers from the Anson County Animal Shelter received a call on Sunday morning about a dog guarding a plastic trash bag off Clark Mountain Road. The road crew who found her said she wouldn’t leave the black bag.
Despite efforts to lure the emaciated shepherd away from the bag, she refused. It wasn’t until the crew opened the bag and found her deceased puppy.
The dog was taken to the Anson County Animal Shelter and has since become ill.
“I’m just taking a shot in the dark … but I believe that, whoever these animals belonged to, tried to vaccinate the puppy after it was sick with PARVO,” the shelter posted on their Facebook page. “You can see the vaccine package bag in with the puppy. So if you bought a puppy or took a “free” puppy from somebody and it looks like this one … you might want to get it checked out. And to whomever did this … we are taking care of mom.”
When a plea went out to Rescue Dogs Rock, NYC, the non-profit animal rescue organization didn’t hesitate to help. Sasha is being transported to the rescue’s veterinary partner now.
