Known in Ireland and worldwide Supervet Professor Noel Fitzpatrick shared the news of the death of his “beautiful” border terrier Keira. The 53-year-old vet who has saved hundreds of dogs’ lives posted on his Instagram account:
“My heart is truly broken. She was my best friend in the whole wide world. It is with profound sadness I share the news that Keira, my beloved companion of nearly 14 years, has passed away.
My friend Amy and her son Kyle are broken-hearted too since they have shared her guardianship with me all this time.”

Noel’s tribute continued:
“We were so very blessed and lucky to have had her in our lives, lighting the way with her magnificent unconditional love. We were especially lucky to have been gifted magical further time with her when she nearly lost her life too soon a year ago.”

In October 2020, Keira had been hit by a van outside of his veterinary office. He chose to operate on his dog himself and saved her life. At the time of the accident, a delivery van had “sped” around the corner, shattering Keira’s pelvis and internal damage. Press reports at the time said operating on Keira had been “the most nervous he’d been in his 20-year career.”
During Keira’s recovery, the vet posted updates and captured the hearts of millions with his amazing abilities and compassion.
The tribute ended with:
“Thank you my beautiful baby girl. I give you back to the starlight. You are forever by my side. I love you beyond what words can say.”

Rest in peace Keira.
