Every day a street dog in Cleveland, Texas would hide in the rocky areas and try to find a place to lie down and sleep while remaining alert enough to fend off predators. He would scavenge the area for food – even just a tiny morsel to stave off the pains in his stomach from starvation was an accomplishment.

As he searched for food, he dodged cars; some vehicles trying to purposely run him over. And he watched people walk by, for awhile he was hopeful someone would save him, but after so many people let him down and just walked on by, he became leery of humans and would no longer approach anyone.

And if all that wasn’t tragic enough, there was his failing health as the mosquitos and fleas remained unrelenting. He would scratch and scratch; there was no escape from that hell causing his skin to be raw and painful.

This is the life of so many dogs in Cleveland, but Moose is one of the lucky ones. He was rescued last night. Sadly he was so afraid of humans he had to be captured with the use of a humane trap.

“Moose is very stable but went to Vergi 24/7 last night to be examined. He’s 5-7 years old and heartworm positive of course. Bloodwork was fairly decent with some elevated levels due to skin issues and dehydration. He stayed on IV fluids to help rehydrate him and he started antibiotics for his skin issues. His right canine is fractured on the tip, but other than that, he’s fairly healthy. Just a sad, shy boy. Welcome to your new life, Moose,” ThisIsHouston posted on their Facebook page.

Poor Moose had been riddled with pellets. Why is it that almost every stray dog rescued from Cleveland has been shot? Whoever shot Moose had no mercy on him. He will be remaining at the hospital for a few days and is being monitored for foreign material and rocks in his stomach. The hospital repeated x-rays do show what is in his stomach is moving very slowly, and he remains on intravenous fluids.
