An elderly woman and her beloved cat were helped out by the staff of the Nebraska Humane Society. Here’s a shoutout to the humane organization for truly random acts of kindness.

When the woman mailed in her cat licensing fee, she also included a note asking the officers at the Nebraska Humane Society to take her cat because she was unable to afford to feed her beloved pet any longer. First, Cindy in the licensing department, returned the woman’s check and used grant money to cover the annual fee.

And next, officers decided to do a wellness check on the home and bring the woman some cat food.

When officers arrived, they found out that not only did the woman not have any food for her cat, but she also didn’t have food for herself. The story, however didn’t end there, nor was the cat seized. Instead Officer Brown and Officer Binau went on a shopping trip to the grocery store where they picked up several bags of food for the woman. In addition, Officer Williams shoveled the woman’s walkways.

“This is just one of the many ways our ACOs – and the rest of our staff – strive to make a positive difference in the community. We’re so glad to be able to keep the woman and her kitty united,” the organization posted on their Facebook page.

Update:

So Many of you want to help! Animal Control did contact a couple of “People” centric agencies who can offer longer term help to the pet owner. We will be contacting those agencies to get advice on how you all can help them.
For the Cats:
NHS also has a program called “Animeals” where volunteers deliver pet food/litter once a month to folks who are using Meals on Wheels. We work with ENOA and utilize both donated and purchased food (we purchase if we don’t get the right products donated). We’ve added a donate button to the post and will put the total toward that program!
