Skeletal dog left tied to fence outside of shelter in the freezing cold

A skeletal dog was left tied to fencing outside of a Colonial Heights, Virginia, animal shelter. The case of abandonment was particularly cruel given the fact that the dog has no body fat and it was freezing outside when he someone tied him up and walked away.

On Tuesday morning, the Colonial Heights Animal Services facility posted photos of the dog, writing:

Staff arrived this morning to find this.

We are in need of the publics help to identify the person or persons responsible. This is beyond unacceptable. We are looking to pursue charges and hope to do so.

Adding a word of condemnation to anyone who thinks that it is “okay” to abandon a dog if it happens outside of a shelter:

For those of you who see this and find it beneficial to comment that “at least they brought it to the shelter”- I urge you to think of this canine outside in nearly freezing temperatures with barely any body fat watching their person or persons drive off/walk off and leave. REGARDLESS that maybe “they couldn’t afford care” or you think they “tried to do the right thing”- abandonment is NOT right. It is illegal. Finding this shivering animal in this condition is wrong and he/she DID NOT get in this condition over night.. To those responsible- they failed this animal long before they tied it to our shelter fence in a last ditch effort.

The dog is being taken to a veterinarian for care. The shelter has provided information for anyone hoping to make a donation, writing:

We are enroute to Colonial Heights Veterinary Hospital 804-526-6050 to do a full workup on this canine. If you would like to make a donation, please call and request to donate directly to the shelter.
