A shelter in Raleigh, North Carolina, is in search of an “angel” to help a senior dog who is dying. On Monday, the SPCA of Wake County posted a plea for help on behalf of the 10-year-old dog, whose name is Joyanna:

Joyanna is looking for an angel, and we’re hoping you might be out there. She was surrendered to the shelter at 10 years old because of her volleyball-sized mammary tumor. Sadly her cancer has metastasized badly, and her lungs are riddled with it too.

Joyanna

Joyanna was assessed by two veterinarians who agreed that her cancer is too advanced for treatment or surgery. Instead, the shelter hopes to find her a home where she will be spoiled for what remains of her life. They write:

“the best thing we can do is give Joyanna as much joy and love as possible in the time she has left.”

According to the facility, Joyanna spent most of her life living outside, without much in the way of attention. The shelter is hopeful that someone will take her in and show her how good life can be, writing:

We don’t know exactly how long she has, whether it’s days or weeks or longer, but we believe she shouldn’t have to spend her last days in a shelter. She deserves to spend this time in a warm home surrounded by the love of a family. Somewhere she can be held, spoiled, and feel safe ❤️

According to the animal welfare agency, Joyanna is appreciative of the kindness she is currently receiving:

Joyanna’s heart is bursting with love and appreciation for every moment of attention she gets. She spends her days here snoozing away on a soft bed and getting love and cuddles whenever she can. And don’t be fooled, her spirits are high and she’s got some pep in her step! Her tail wags away, and she loooooves being outside and rolling in the grass. She’s only had one accident, and she shows no interest in cats. She even knows sit! (But we don’t ask her to do it because it makes her uncomfortable.)

Helping Joyanna

We’re looking for a very special family or individual that would consider opening their home to Joyanna for whatever time she has. It would be the ultimate gift for a dog in her last days. If you are interested in learning more, please go to spcawake.org/dogs for information ❤️
