More than five months ago, a senior dog named Baxter was diagnosed with cancer in his jaw. The only way to save his life was for him to undergo surgery to remove the tumor and a portion of his jaw. Thanks to the Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana), Baxter got the surgery and today he is pain-free…aside from his hurting heart.

On Wednesday, the shelter posted a photo of the homeless dog, writing:

Today, Baxter is physically free of pain, but is full of sadness. He has been waiting over 5 months for a forever home. He has overcome and survived so much, and now just needs someone to rescue and love him.

It is devastating to know that Baxter went through that traumatic experience without a family or a home, and heartbreaking to realize that now he is recovered, and still has no one to enjoy the twilight of his life with. Will you please share Baxter’s story and help make his dream of being a beloved companion come true?
