At Miami-Dade Animal Services, the second longest resident needs help immediately. His name is Santo, and since January 8, 2021, this ultra-friendly boy has been waiting patiently for a loving home. Sadly, this is his second time at the shelter. The first time he was returned to his owner, but this time no one came to take him back home.

A volunteer writes:

“Can you please tell me why people run away from me when they see me? Do I look scary to you? I made two wonderful friends at the shelter who don’t fear me but instead take me out for walks and tell me how handsome I am. They make me feel wanted and it’s because of that, I’m actually coming out of my shell and doing better. They think I may have been attacked by another dog before coming here which has caused me to feel a little fearful. Feeling loved and wanted is the best feeling ever and something I’ve never experienced by humans. I’m starting to feel safer in this environment with their help. I’m potty-trained and I walk well on a leash. I’m dog selective so would need meet and greets. If you promise not to be afraid of me, you just might fall in love with me. Please can you share me? I don’t know how much longer I have and feel like I’ve overstayed my welcome. My name is #SANTO #A1909706 and I’m a 5 year old 66 lb. male terrier mix. I’m no stranger to the shelter and fear I may not make it out alive this time.”

Volunteers at the shelter describe Santo as sweet, calm and affectionate. When he first meets someone he doesn’t know, he is quite shy, but he quickly warms up. His favorite pastime is cuddling up next to his human for endless belly rubs.

Santo walks well on a leash, is house trained and loves to roll on the grass. This laid back pooch could make him the best Netflix pal ever – and to think he will like whatever movie or series his human chooses to watch.

Santo is heartworm positive and will need to be treated. He also suffers from a chronic cough and will need further evaluation and to be examined by a veterinarian.
