Sanctuary wolf died from a stroke after New Year’s Eve fireworks

In a heartbreaking video of a wolf named Solomon being comforted just moments before he died, the owner of Big Oak Wolf Sanctuary blames the noise from hours of powerful fireworks as the reason the animal died.

The video showed Solomon lying down and heavily panting while being gently stroked by co-owner of the sanctuary, Debra Knight. According to Debra, Solomon suffered a stroke and his legs became paralyzed until he could no longer move and then died.

Solomon was an older wolf, who had been very sensitive to the clamoring of fireworks, and as the endless noise continued for six hours, the wolf became so frightened and distressed, his heart rate skyrocketed. Last year, another wolf named Bariah died from a stroke while fireworks blasted for hours.

“Our beloved Solomon minutes before he left for Heaven.
When you get drunk on the Fourth of July and New Year’s eve, you feel like crap the next day.
But when you get drunk on the Fourth of July and New Year’s eve, and shoot off illegal fireworks all night, as if you’re the only people affected and your recreation is all that matters anyway―like people one would see on the Jerry Springer show―this is what happens to many of the animals in your community…notice the grave that’s been dug behind him, ass holes!”
Sanctuary animals do not have the option to run away or burrow into deep dens away from the noise as they would if they were in the wild. There are some underground dens on the property, but they still are unable to escape the loud noises.
Many dogs are also affected by fireworks and many have run away from their homes or have died trying to escape the incredibly high decibels ringing through their sensitive ears.
For now the other wolves and wolf-dog hybrids are slowly recovering from the trauma.
Rest in peace Solomon.

  1. Rest In Heavenly Peace Solomon. My family are lovers of wolves. We were very saddened to hear about Solomon’s death. I am so glad that he was with someone being comforted at the time. God Bless You for caring for these amazing animals. Where is your sanctuary located?
