A Sacramento, California, woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison for setting her sister’s dog, Doody, on fire. The woman, 56-year-old Petra Gabriel, sprayed accelerant on the dog after he got in a fight with another dog, and then used a butane torch to set him on fire. Doody suffered widespread burns on his body and though he survived, there were fears that he could lose his eyes and an ear, reports CBS Sacramento.

In April, Gabriel pleaded guilty to multiple charges including felony animal cruelty for the July 2020 incident.

Doody, now Phoenix, remains in a medical foster home and has to wear a t-shirt to protect his badly burned body.
