Earlier this week, police officers in Atlanta, Georgia, raced to save a dog who was tethered to a tree near a fully engulfed, burning car. On Thursday, the City of Atlanta Police Department posted video showing the dramatic rescue effort of the dog who officers described as a brave, “good boy.”
The video shows officers arriving to the scene of the car, and then noticing a dog tethered near the burning vehicle. Without hesitation, the officers sprint through a yard to access the dog, who is unable to run to safety. The officers struggled to release the dog from the cable and heavy collar – in what seems to be an agonizing period of time, with the burning car popping and sizzling nearby, the officers work to release the dog.
Finally, they were able to free him from the tether and whisk him to safety. In a Facebook post, the authorities recounted what happened:
As they worked to get the collar from his neck, the vehicle continuously reacted loudly to the heat, but these officers would not be deterred. After finally getting him free, the dog was removed from danger and given the love he deserves.
Commending the brave dog who allowed strangers to jump in to save his life:
We would also like to mention that we are proud of the dog, who maintained his composure and showed bravery throughout this ordeal allowing the officers to free him. We give him a 12/10. He’s a good boy.
