A New Jersey police officer has adopted a pit bull puppy who was abandoned in an industrial area at the start of the year. On January 2, the Mount Laurel Police Department posted a photo of the pup, writing:
Found puppy!
This little guy was found near East Gate Square today. This pup was safely secured and taken to the Burlington County Animal Shelter where he will receive treatment for a little cut on his head and a nice meal. If you are or know the owner please contact the Burlington County Animal Shelter.
When no one came forward to claim the pup at their own, an officer at the department decided to take matters into his own hands, and offered to adopt. On January 17, the department updated curious Facebook followers about the puppy’s fate, writing:
Everyone keeps asking what happened to the puppy we found on January 2nd……Well he has a new home with one of the officers who rescued him.
Officer O’Hanlon adopted him right away and has been making sure he gets lots of attention and treats! Little Thor is healing up nicely and has found his forever loving home!
Officer O’Hanlon explained his decision to 6 ABC News:
My fiance and I were looking to get a pitbull, and when you see a pit bull puppy with an injury, it’s hard to pass up on.
He added:
Boy, it makes you feel good that you can help a little puppy like that go from whatever happened to him to now knowing how spoiled he’s going to be for the rest of his life.
