Police in Boulder, Colorado, are investigating after the discovery of a burned dog’s body which was found on a “makeshift boat,” which had been set on fire and was floating on Viele Lake. As reported by 9 News, people who were visiting Harlow Platts Community Park contacted the authorities after making the disturbing discovery.

At this point in time, it is unclear if it is a case of animal cruelty, or if the dog’s owner was attempting to do a funeral pyre on the lake for their pet. A funeral pyre, or open air cremation, is illegal in most parts of the United States.

Anyone who has information about this situation is asked to reach out to the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at [email protected] or call 1-800-222-8477. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

What are your thoughts about this situation? If it was an owner attempting to do an unusual funeral for their pet, do you agree or disagree with their choice? Feel free to weigh in with a comment below.
