On Saturday night, a New Orleans, Louisiana, police officer fatally shot a 30-pound rescue puppy inside of the pup’s own yard. As reported by WWLTV News, an officer responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Felicity Street after receiving a complaint about “loud voices.”

The officer encountered the puppy and another dog after walking through a gate at the home – the four-month-old puppy, named Apollo, died. The puppy’s owner, Julie-Barecki Brown, said:

I ran out here, and the puppy was right there, writhing. I feel responsible. It’s my job to protect that little guy.”

Brown and her husband, Derek, had been fighting – it was their argument that prompted the call to the authorities. Derek Brown commented on the situation:

“Married couples do that.  We weren’t drawing guns.”

As reported by Fox 8 News, the officer has been reassigned after killing the puppy. Apollo was adopted from Trampled Rose Rescue and Rehab. Holly Williams, with the rescue group, commented on the pup’s death, stating:

“When I learned that he was shot in his own yard, securely fenced yard, I was horrified. I was speechless because I mean, if your pets aren’t safe within their own yard, where are they safe?”

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the incident.

  1. When in the HELL are you people going to WAKE UP? ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER ANYWHERE in the U.S. right NOW can WALK UP to YOU, ME, YOUR DOG, YOUR NEIGHBORS DOG and SHOOT EVERY ONE of US and WALK AWAY to ANOTHER day of IMPUNITY and WORK. THEY will NOT be HELD ACCOUNTABLE until YOU LAZY IDIOTS get OFF YOUR BUTTS and VOTE OUT the CORRUPT DEMONS YOU SUPPORT to THIS day! THIS IS called the KARMA YOU GET when YOU IGNORE OTHERS BEING ABUSED by LAW ENFORCEMENT, thinking it WON’T HAPPEN to ME. Let me know how THAT works out for ya from YOUR GRAVES, remedial twits!

  2. OMG: another “Bully with a badge”……. This is totally disgusting……. that POS cop should lose his badge. He didn’t handle the situation correctly. This young puppy was in his own yard and is expected to bark or get excited when a stranger approaches……. there was no reason to shoot an excited barking puppy (who probably thought the cop was there to play with him)…….

The next thing you know this POS cop will shoot a kid playing basketball in his own yard because he sees the basketball as a potential weapon…….

Condolences to the Brown family from the Peters Puppy Pack on the loss of precious treasure Apollo.

Apollo, I know you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends.

I hope the Brown family can get justice for Apollo. This shooting was completely unnecessary and just highlights “Bully with a badge” syndrome (which MUST be eliminated or people will never trust the law, ever)……. If that were me and one of my furbabies was wrongly killed, I would sue the department demanding the POS cop’s badge AND a huge financial settlement for grief counseling for my entire family…….
