Police have arrested a Rochester, New York, man who was caught on video repeatedly punching his German shepherd at a dog washing business. As reported by Rochester First News, the authorities arrested 54-year-old Michael Myer on Tuesday.
Lollypop Farm Vice President for Law Enforcement Reno Di Domenico commented on the criminal act:
“This type of violence against a family pet is not something we can tolerate in our community. We are grateful to the patrons and store employees who reported this crime and the Good Samaritan who sent in the tip that made it possible to bring this animal abuser to justice.”
On March 24, the animal welfare agency had issued a request for help to find the dog’s abuser, writing:
Rochester Area CRIME STOPPERS and Lollypop Farm Humane Law Enforcement Department need the public’s help in locating the person responsible for a shocking case of animal abuse. The incident occurred recently at the Henrietta CountryMax Pet Wash facility. The suspect in the photos is seen repeatedly beating the dog, a German Shepherd mix. CountryMax employees discovered the incident on CCTV footage and immediately contacted law enforcement.
Myer is facing a misdemeanor charge of overdriving, torturing, and injuring an animal, which could result in a $1,000 fine and/or up to a year in prison.
