A woman from south Phoenix admitted pouring gasoline on her two dogs to stop them from fighting. Moments later, the dogs ran by a lit barbecue in the yard and caught on fire. They are currently fighting for their lives.

According to AZFamily, the owner of the two pit bulls, Lonnie Harper, was arrested and taken to the Maricopa County Detention Center where she faces two counts of felony animal cruelty. Harper told authorities she tried at first to use water to break the dogs up, but it didn’t work, however she has claimed the dogs catching on fire was a terrible accident.

The incident occurred six-days prior, but instead of rushing the dogs to a veterinarian for emergency treatment, Harper googled burn treatments for dogs and subsequently watched YouTube videos. She then treated the dogs herself, and even cut off dead skin.

The dogs have been transferred to the Arizona Humane Society’s Second Chance Trauma Hospital. Lavi suffered burns to 30% of his body, and Beaste suffered deeper wounds and lacerations. To help with their veterinarian expenses, donations can be made by clicking here.

  1. My Dad always said: “One can fix many things, but one can NOT fix “stupid””…… This POS owner should be locked up forever and lose the keys!!! She is a danger to herself and the rest of society…….

I hope these treasures fully heal and are rehomed into loving furever families (who have brains) and will treat these treasures as beloved family members!!!

  2. I’m puzzled as to WHY ANY ONE would think GAS would be the best way to separate them. It’s this type of remedial that shouldn’t be allowed to have more than ONE pet, as it clearly strains their reasoning skills. I lived in Maricopa County for 25 years, currently in another county in AZ. She WILL be punished to the fullest extent here as they have some of the best animal protection laws in the country now. 2017 a new law came into effect that states people can NO longer tie out their dogs in the summer heat here during certain hours with additional limits on tie outs during other seasons. I never leave my dogs out in the summer heat here for more than 15 minutes.
