The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Westchester announced  that the Humane Law Enforcement Unit (HLE), under the direction of Ernest Lungaro and in a joint investigation with The Economic Crimes Bureau of the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, arrested and charged Lisa Marie Birdsall, 55, with Grand Larceny.

Birdsall’s Recycled Paws Rescue is located in Mohegan Lake. From January 2020 to December 2020, Birdsall is accused of stealing more than $3,000 from the 501c3 rescue. In addition she stole over $17,000 by taking funds for her own personal use. An investigation began when officials received an anonymous tip accompanied by evidence.

According to the rescue’s website, the organization began in 2017 and rescues dogs “from all over the world and all walks of life. From orphaned puppies, to abandoned pregnant mothers, to deserted senior dogs, and more.”

Birdsall is scheduled to appear in court in Yorktown Heights on August 3.
