Zoya, a three-year-old mixed-breed dog, lost her home when she was surrendered to the Brooklyn Animal Care and Control facility in New York on November 17 by an owner who was deploying with the military. The dog was justifiably confused and frightened by her tremendous losses, and now, she may be euthanized. In fact, according to the Dogs Lives Matter Facebook page, Zoya has been scheduled to be put down on 12/14/2021.

To Be Euthanized 12/14/2021 in NYC

Sharing details from her former owner:

Her previous owner’s favorite things about her is how playful she is, she always knows when something is wrong, and how she cries whenever she wants to be rubbed. Zoya previously lived with 3 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 cats AND WAS HAPPY! Housetrained and well-behaved when left alone, Zoya knows her commands and just wants to be with her people. She loves her walks, trips to the dog park and playing – Her favorite toys to play with are balls and chews/bones. Her favorite games to play are fetch, chase, and tug of war.

But Zoya isn’t the same dog at the animal control facility. There, she is scared, confused and defensive. Her intake notes read:

INTAKE NOTES -DATE OF INTAKE: 17-Nov-2021: Upon intake, staff noticed Zoya was very anxious and would often look for a way out of the center while with her owner. While staff was teaching the owner how to collar the dog, she snapped at a staff member making contact but not breaking skin. Staff did not handle from that point on.

Zoya must be rescued through a New Hope shelter partner because of her bite history, and defensive/aggressive behavior.
