Over 100 cats have been rescued from “hellish” conditions in the basement of a Delbarton, West Virginia, woman’s home. As reported by WBOY News, the owner of the cats, Glenn Faye Adair, a woman in her 70s, is now facing felony charges for the disturbing and cruel conditions found at the residence.

The Mingo County Sheriff’s Office released information about the charges:

Glenna Faye Adair of Delbarton was arrested by Cpl L. Thomas and Deputy TJ Justice and charged with Felony Animal Cruelty – Mistreat Animals in a cruel manner and Felony Animal Cruelty – Improper sustenance, including food and water.

The authorities thanked the agencies involved in the massive rescue effort:

This has been a long and emotional investigation and we appreciate everyone who assisted with the rescue of these animals. We are especially thankful to Guardians of Rescue and Pitiful Paws Rescue for all their help.

Individuals who took part in the rescue effort describe the unbelievable conditions inside of the house. James Houchins, Field Director with Guardians of Rescue, said:

“We always go into these situations thinking that we’ve seen it all, that we’ve seen the worst of the worst, but you know you can never really prepare for what you see in these things. Our respirators are made for these things and the smell through our filters, and we had them double filtered and you could still smell the ammonia coming from out of that house.”

The cats were said to be “held like prisoners” in the basement of the residence – the photos of the conditions speak for themselves.

Pitiful Paws Rescue, which helped save the cats, is in need of donations for their continued care:

  1. I do NOT understand how anyone would want to live in this disgusting situation……. I keep cleaning supplies in each room of our house to deal with “oopsies”…….
I hope those cats all heal ASAP and are rehomed into loving furever families who will treat them as beloved family members.
