An Ohio man has been indicted for a brutal attack on a puppy that happened inside of a motel room in Boardman. On Thursday, 30-year-old Dante Mason was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury for the February 22 attack which left a pit bull puppy with a “badly broken” rear leg, reports WKBN News.

The injured puppy was discovered after guests at the Red Roof Inn heard loud thumping, and a dog crying. Responding officers heard thumping and yelling when they arrived to investigate the complaints.

Once inside the room, the officers found the badly injured pup in a bathtub with feces and urine – the puppy was struggling to breathe. The man accused of hurting the pup claimed that he was “teaching the dog a lesson” after the puppy peed on the bed. The puppy was seized and taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

Mason was arrested and booked into the Mahoning County Jail on a charge for possession of a fentanyl-related compound, and animal cruelty.
