An Akron, Ohio, man is facing animal cruelty charges for moving away from a residence and leaving dogs behind to die. According to multiple sources, one dog died and another was near death after 35-year-old Deon Downer abandoned them at a a home on Lakeland Avenue in Akron.
When the situation was discovered on March 8, one dog had already died and another was “barely alive.” The surviving dog was transported to Metro Animal Hospital for care.
According to the Summit County Prosecutor, Downer is facing two fifth-degree felony counts of cruelty to animals and a misdemeanor count of abandoned animals; his arraignment is scheduled for April 28. No word on the condition of the surviving dog.
