On Wednesday, officials in Riverside County, California, seized 76 dogs from a homeless encampment. As reported by KTLA 5 News, animal services seized the dogs after their owner refused to cooperate with their request to rehome them.

Riverside County Animal Services posted video of the seizure on Facebook, writing:

Lt. Kyle Stephens carries one of the dogs from a dirty kennel at this morning’s seizure operation. Almost 80 dogs now getting vet exams, love and proper care at our San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus. Thnx to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, County of Riverside Code Enforcement, CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, Riverside University Health System – Behavioral Health & American Medical Response.

Along with a request for assistance:

Comments on the Riverside County Animal Services’ post indicates that the seizure is linked to a self-described “rescuer” of pit bulls. The name has not publicly been released.

The person who owns the property was apparently unaware of the dogs’ presence.

The dogs’ owner has an “extensive” history with the animal services department and was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
