Nine shootings in 16 hour span of time leaves service dog dead in Portland, Oregon

A man’s service dog was killed in Portland, Oregon, during a 16 hour span of time that saw nine shootings in the city. The Portland Police Bureau reported that the shootings took place just after noon on August 31, 2021, through the early morning hours of September 1, 2021. PPB stated:

Two of the shootings resulted in people being seriously injured and one shooting involved a service animal being killed.

Releasing the details of the shooting which claimed the service dog’s life:

On August 31, 2021 at 7:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 1700 Block of Southeast 122nd Avenue, involving an injured dog. Officers located crime scene which consisted of multiple cartridge casings. Officers located an intended victim (not injured) and his service dog, which succumbed to gunfire related injuries.

As reported by Fox News, there were 52 murders in the city as of July 31 – up from 26 during the same period of time in 2020.
