More than a dozen animals were found living in a squalid mobile home in Adams County, Ohio, over the weekend. As reported by WCPO News, the owner of the residence, and animals, had died.

Officials who responded to the mobile home found dogs, cats, and chickens, living in deplorable conditions, in what is described as a hoarding situation. Trash and feces were piled high inside of the home and the smell of ammonia from the urine was so overwhelming that it was difficult for the rescuers to breathe.

In a release, the Humane Society of Adams County recounts the troubling situation:

We received a call from the local Adams County Sheriff Department that the body of a man had been found inside his residence along a rural road in Adams County, Ohio. The man lived alone and had accumulated multiple dogs, cats, goats, and chickens on his property. Many of the animals were discovered to be underfed and living in inadequate conditions.

Some of the dogs rescued from the property are described as “semi-feral.” The animals were removed and are being cared for at the HSAC animal shelter in West Union and in foster homes.

Donations to help care for the animals can be made to the shelter at this link.
