In a rare video posted on Tuesday, capturing a protective mother elephant in the safari footage app Latest Sightings, a crocodile was trampled to death by a very protective elephant mom.

“This unlucky crocodile found itself right underneath the feet of the world’s largest land mammal – the African Elephant, and unfortunately, did not make it to see another day.”

The cellphone video was recorded in Zambia and shows the mother elephant approach the crocodile and push it with her mouth and head first. She then wraps her trunk around the croc and tosses it one time; the mom elephant doesn’t have any tusks and instead defends herself with the use of her trunk, head, feet and mouth.

According to EcoWatch, the elephant weighed between 5,952 and 7,937 pounds crushing the crocodile.

Vidographer Hans Henrik Haahr shot the footage calling it “shocking.”

“Crocodiles are opportunistic hunters and have been know to prey on baby elephants. This mother elephant was not taking any chances and was not happy with the crocodile being so close to her young calf – to protect her calf, she removed the threat of the crocodile entirely.”
