A pet sitter’s discovery of a cardboard box full of tennis balls with a message written on the outside left in the park where many people walk their dogs has melted the hearts of internet viewers.

Kayley Drewitt, 29, from Littleport, Ely in the United Kingdom, owns a dog walking service called The Animal Ark Pet Services. Just days ago, she had been walking in an Ely County Park with her client’s puppy, Ozzy – a seven-month Springer spaniel when the two discovered the cardboard box.

According to CambridgeshireLive, Kayley was curious but had no idea she would see a note left with a boxful of tennis balls.

“I’m too old to play with my favourite tennis balls now,” the message on the box read. “Jarvis the Cocker Spaniel. But it would make me very happy to know that some younger doggies would have fun with them. Love from Jarvis”

After Kayley posted the photo on social media, the reaction brought tears to readers’ eyes. She explained that Ozzy pushed his head directly into the box and picked up a ball immediately and started to play with it.

“I thought it was an amazing gesture. There were so many balls in that box that I just wanted other people to be able to go and take their dogs there as well. I couldn’t believe how many people liked it. It just shows that a bit of kindness goes a long way.”

Not long after Kayley posted the story about the box of balls, she received a message from Jarvis’ owner, Lian Wymer, 53, who had seen the post on Instagram.

“Honestly, seeing that snotter sniffing the balls made me so happy and like you said, its bitter sweet.”

Jarvis is nearly 11 years old now and suffers from severe arthritis, and so there’s no more ball playing for the senior. He had been a playful young dog and used to carry a ball around wherever he went. And the dog’s owner felt the box of balls would benefit other dogs, and because Lian had Covid, she wasn’t sure anyone would come near her if she brought the balls to the park to hand them out to other dogs.

Kayley plans to bring Ozzy to visit Jarvis one day soon.

How we love such acts of kindness.
