A 23-year-old Buffalo, New York, man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his beating of an eight-week-old puppy earlier this year. According to multiple sources, the puppy abuser is identified as Navier Rodriguez and he is charged with Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, a Class “A” misdemeanor.

The incident which led to the cruelty charge took place in April on Porter Avenue near Front Park in the City of Buffalo. As reported by ABC 7 News, there were several witnesses who saw Rodriguez repeatedly throw the puppy to the ground, as well as hit the pup. The beating and throwing led to multiple serious injuries in the pup, whose name is Petey. Petey was taken to the SPCA Serving Erie County for treatment of “extensive” mouth injuries and other cuts and abrasions. Petey is currently living with a foster family.

Rodriguez is currently free from jail, but prohibited from owning any animals until the case has concluded. He is scheduled for sentencing on January 25, and he could face up to a year behind bars.
