A rooster, fitted with a blade on his leg, killed his owner, who was forcing him to participate in an illegal cockfight. The deadly incident happened in India, where cockfighting is illegal. As reported by Yahoo News, the man died after being sliced in his groin as the rooster tried to get away.

Authorities in the area are searching for over a dozen other people who were participating in the illegal activity in the village of Lothunur in Telangana state.

Cockfighting is a cruel “bloodsport” which functions in a similar manner to dog fights. Rooster, fitted with sharp blades, are forced into a ring and pitted against one another in a brutal and cruel fight to the death. According to the ASPCA, though cockfighting is illegal in every state, they still happen. Like dog fighting, cockfights go hand-in-hand with illegal activity, such as drug use and gambling.

Anyone who suspects cockfighting activity in their area is encouraged to contact the local authorities and/or the ASPCA.

Not really sympathetic for someone who was trying to make the rooster fight (& it really didn’t want to fight)……

He assumed the risk of handling a bird fitted with (essentially) sharp knives……
