A Texas man is facing a felony animal cruelty charge for allegedly punishing his dog so severely that the dog suffered “severe trauma.” As reported by KLTV News, 54-year-old David Fields, of Tatum, was arrested on Wednesday after the police were called out to the America’s Best Value Inn, at 3100 Estes Parkway, in Longview, to investigate a disturbance in one of the rooms.

The Longview Police found Fields in the room – the man confessed to punishing his dog for having an accident. An officer observed a “seriously” injured dog in the room. The wounded dog was transported to Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center where a veterinarian discovered “severe trauma.”

Fields was arrested and taken to the Gregg County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of animal cruelty.
