A South Carolina man has been arrested for animal cruelty following the intake of a “skin and bones” dog at a Horry County animal shelter last week. On Tuesday, William Gaston was arrested on a charge of ill treatment to animals.

On May 13, the Horry County Animal Care Center had posted multiple images of the skeletal dog, writing:

On Thursday, May 13, 2021, Horry County Police Department Environmental Services Unit took custody of this dog via an HCACC drop-off.
The dog is in very poor shape and suffers from severe malnutrition.
An investigation is underway to determine how the dog came to be in this condition. Charges are possible.

As reported by WMBF News, the three-year-old Labrador retriever mix, dubbed Remo, was so weak upon intake that he could barely walk. A woman had dropped him off at the shelter, telling staff that he had been “dropped off be a friend,” two weeks earlier. The woman told the authorities that she did not have the funds to get the dog veterinary care.

The shelter has created an Amazon Wish List for Remo – click here to make a purchase.
