A Michigan man was arrested and charged for allegedly killing a five-month-old puppy with a chainsaw. As reported by the Battle Creek Enquirer, 22-year-old Erik Paul Taylor allegedly killed his sister-in-law’s Labrador Retriever mix puppy, Luna, last week.
The pup’s owner, Melody Taylor, said she doesn’t know why Erik killed the puppy, but told the news agency:
“I had never trusted him (Erik), she said. Two weeks prior he was telling my husband and I we should kill the dog because the dog was possessed. He just said it that one time and I asked him to leave the house.”
But the puppy wound up in Erik’s care when the couple went out with friends – the pup was supposed to be with other family members, but those people allowed Erik to take her.
When Luna’s owners came to get her, Erik claimed that the pup had run away, but then changed his story and stated that he had shot Luna after she became aggressive with two other large breed dogs who belonged to his father. Melody said, “I just never believed it. She was never aggressive so I didn’t believe it.”
While searching for Luna, Melody discovered a bloodied bandana that the pup had been wearing, and a bloody chainsaw. She contacted the authorities, who searched the property and found the pup buried – the deputies stated that the puppy’s head was “nearly severed.”
The accused dog killer admitted to the police that he had killed the pup, explaining that he shot her, but she didn’t die so he “finished her off” with the chainsaw; the deputies did not find any evidence that the puppy had been shot.
He could face up to 10 years in prison if he is found guilty of his charges.
