Witnesses claim that a Leavenworth, Kansas, man threw a dog into the Missouri River. As reported by the Leavenworth Times, good Samaritans who bore witness to the disturbing incident were able to pull the kennel that the dog was confined to out of the water.
Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, commented on the situation, which unfolded on Monday at Riverfront Park:
“It was witnessed by several people,”
The 24-year-old suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, left the area, but the authorities were able to track him down and arrest him for animal cruelty. The cruel incident is believed to have stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and his girlfriend. The dog hurled into the water, a miniature poodle, was one of three dogs that the suspect allegedly took from his girlfriend.
