In Jersey City, New Jersey, the disappearance of Mac the Goldendoodle who had been under the care of a pet sitter and mysteriously disappeared, has died.
According to Mac’s owner, Diego Chaves had plans to go away for a few days and had hired a dog sitter to care for his dog. At first he and the pet sitter, Micaela, were in constant contact with each other, however on Monday, when Chaves returned to pick up the dog, Micaela had stopped responding to his messages and phone calls.
One day later, Micaela responded via an email telling Diego she had lost Mac after he fled from her car and ran off in the Jersey City Heights area near Baldwin Avenue.
Neighbors and friends, with the help of social media, rallied together to help find Mac. Messages flooded into Diego’s Facebook from other pet owners who allegedly had interactions with the same pet sitter also going by the name of Alyssa. Her email address was associated with Posh Pet Service, however the phone number she had listed has been disconnected.
On Wednesday evening, Chaves posted the tragic update:
“At around 6:30 pm we received a phone call that Mac has been brought into the vet. After rushing down to the vet we were informed that Mac had unfortunately passed away. Please do not take this as a sign to harass or threaten the sitter. For now we just ask for time to mourn over the loss of our Mac. Once again I cannot thank everyone enough for all the help and support we’ve received and we are sorry that we could not update with good news.”
