In Glasgow, two little girls have been left completely heartbroken after the Pomeranian puppy their mother purchased for them died one day after he arrived. The mom bought the puppy from an online advertisement as a present for her two daughters -aged six and 11 years old.
According to the Daily Mail, the puppy dubbed Angus became ill shortly after he arrived. Concerned that the puppy had become so lethargic, the puppy was rushed to the veterinarian where he was diagnosed with parvovirus – an often fatal disease which can easily be avoided by vaccination. There is no cure for the virus, although some puppies manage to survive with intensive and expensive veterinarian treatment using intravenous fluids, anti nausea drugs and pain relief.
Symptoms of the disease are diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fever and often death.
The documents accompanying the puppy when he was shipped turned out to be fake. The children’s mother tried repeatedly to get in touch with the breeder, but after the initial call the phone number was disconnected and the online advertisements removed.
People interested in finding a puppy are advised to visit nearby animal shelters or breeders who they can actually visit and see how the dogs and puppies are living. Vaccinations for puppies are essential to help them stay healthy. People are also encouraged NOT to buy a puppy online.
This was indeed a painful lesson to be learned by a mother of two youngsters who fell in love with a photo of a cute puppy. It’s done all too often, and all too often tragic stories just like this one breaks all of our hearts.
